a sweet three

24 Mar

Three years ago tonight, you changed my world.  The instantaneous surge of love that overwhelmed me the second the pushing had ceased and you were handed to me is a moment unrivaled.  In the blink of an eye I was given you and the full responsibility to love, to protect and to cherish you.

Now, today, you are so big, so capable.  Yet, still my little baby that leaves me speechless.

Today, you wanted cereal for breakfast, to help bake and decorate (with strawberries) your birthday cake, to go to the Discovery Museum and to ride the carousel set up on the Downtown Mall.  I was in awe of how big you were holding on to the horse by yourself and even more amazed you knew Sophie needed me to hold her on the horse.  You played dollhouse, and acted out an elaborate rendition of Cinderella with your princesses.  You watched Max and Ruby, of course.  You helped make your big girl bed this morning and read me as much Mother Goose nursery rhymes as you could remember while we had our quiet time.  We had chicken nuggets for dinner, per your request. Whenever someone wished you happy birthday, you would say happy birthday right back to them.

You moved to a big girl bed last week.  Max and Ruby is your favorite show. You act out Cinderella leaving the ball with great enthusiasm.  You love to do anything with drawing, coloring or cutting up old magazines.  You have a tremendous imagination.  You are very kind and very, very sweet. My most favorite thing you do right now is how you pray before dinner.  It goes a little something like this: “Thank you Jesus for this food.  How I wonder what you are; Up, up, up in the sky. [pause] Thank you for a good day.  AAAAAA NEM.”

I love you, Lady.

Happy Third Birthday Miss Ella Grace.

{Shirt made by mommy, however, Ella was convinced it was a present from Sophie}
